In the Indian system, higher education (tertiary education) starts after the 10+2 stage i.e. Ten years of primary and secondary education followed by Two years of senior secondary education.

Entry Requirements

For admission to undergraduate courses, Universities/Institutes in India require candidates to have completed 12 years of schooling (equivalent to 10+2 system of Indian Education).

The following qualifications are considered equivalent to 10+2 system of Indian Education.

  • GCE Examination of U.K. with pass grades in five subjects at the Ordinary Level (O level) and two subjects at the Advanced Level (A Level).
  • Higher School Certificate Examination, University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate, U.K.
  • International Baccalaureate Examination of Geneva.
  • High School Graduation from accredited institutions of USA.
  • 12 Years High School Diploma of China.
  • 12 Years High School Graduation Diploma of International School, Bangkok / Grade 12 Examination of Ruam Rudee International School, Bangkok / 12 Years High School Diploma of Adventist English School, Bangkok / Mathayom VIII, Final Examination of Upper Secondary Education Course; Final Examination of Secondary Education Course; Mathayom Suksa, 5 Pre-University Final Examination (12 Year Course) of Ministry of Education, Thailand.
  • 12 Years High School Graduation Diploma of Myanmar.
  • 12 Years High School Graduation Diploma of Syria.
  • 12 Years of Secondary Stage qualifications of National Examination Board / Council of Ministries of Education of Kenya, Nigeria, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.

Ed.CIL's Services in the Placement of International Students


Ed.CIL, the only company under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, is associated with vast number of Universities / Institutions across the country for the placement of International Students under this scheme.

Ed.CIL provides the International students a comprehensive package of services, which include:

  • Submit the Admission Offer Letter received from Ed.CIL along with the Provisional Admission Letter from the Institute at the Indian Mission in your country. GRE/TOEFL/IELTS are not required for Study in India .
  • Providing required information to the students about Indian Education.
  • Identifying appropriate Course / Institutions which meet the students needs.
  • Facilitating determination of eligibility.
  • Arranging provisional admission offer from the Institutions.
  • Obtaining statutory approvals.
  • Facilitating Visa / Pre-departure formalities.
  • Facilitating reception of Students on arrival.
  • Facilitating preparatory / bridge courses if required
  • Liaison between Institutions and Parents.
  • Facilitating departure formalities.
  • Acting as a local guardian.

Application Procedure

  • The academic year in India starts in July/August. You may apply two months in advance of the beginning of the academic session.
  • Send your request clearly stating desired course of study in India.
  • Attach attested copies of your certificates of the qualifying examination alongwith two copies of passport size photograph.
