Q1. In which month does the academic year begin at GIIS?A.
For schools in Asia, academic year begins in April for CBSE &
Cambridge IGCSE curriculums, and in July for International Baccalaureate
(Diploma) curriculum. For schools in India, the start month for
academic year is end-June or may vary between cities. It is advisable to
lookup on the specific GIIS website for the start month.Q2. What are the minimum age criteria for admission into Standard 1? A. On the first day of the academic year, your child should have completed five (5) years for admission into Standard 1. Q3. What are the minimum age criteria for admission into Kindergarten?A.
Minimum age for admitting a child in Nursery is 2.5 years complete. So
when a child completes the 2.5 years age during anytime of the year,
he/she can start attending the Nursery classes. Minimum age is 3 years
complete for Kindergarten 1, and 4 years complete for Kindergarten 2, on
the first day of academic years. Q4. Is there any admission test or what are the admission criteria?A.
Admissions are granted on 2 key factors collectively, one is compliance
to the minimum age criteria and second, the child MUST pass the
admission aptitude test for the desired class. Even if the child is
eligible for a higher class by age, the result of the aptitude test
would be final in deciding the class in which the child gets admitted.Q5. Can my child seek admission during middle of the academic session?A.
GIIS Schools in Asia Pacific do allow mid-year admissions to all
children who are relocating with their parents. GIIS students relocating
to India too would be allowed to be admitted during the academic year.
However GIIS students, who are relocating WITHIN India, are allowed to
be admitted only at the beginning of the academic year. Q6. If I am relocating from one country to another, which class would my child be admitted at GIIS?A.
If your child comes from any other international school mid-session,
generally the child continues in the same standard or grade in which
he/she was studying at the other international school. If your child has
completed a particular standard/grade at the international school, then
the child would join in the next grade. If you child moves from
Singapore local school, then he/she may join one class higher as local
age criteria’s are different.Q7.
If my child transfers from a Singapore local school to GIIS, and is
admitted in a one year higher class, will my child be able to cope up?A.
GIIS Principals and the Admissions counselors take special care in
taking decisions of double promotion due to age criteria difference of
Singapore schools. They ensure that the child is admitted to the higher
class only if the child has passed the aptitude tests. GIIS teachers
monitor individual student performance and administer what is called,
Minimum Level of Learning (MLL). Q8. If I am relocating within India, which class would my child be admitted to?A.
In India, admissions sought during the middle of academic session are
granted to the same standard in which the child was studying in the
previous school. Q9. When my child is relocating to your CBSE school, would there be any difficulties he/she may face due to change in school?A.
Your child would be able to smoothly integrate at GIIS and will be at
home within the first week of his/her start at GIIS. Curriculum wise and
textbook wise, since all GIIS schools are synchronized with other
schools, there will be minimal inconvenience to your child. Q10. When I relocate to other city/countries, does GIIS guarantee my child admission?A. If your child moves from one GIIS school to another GIIS school, your child would be guaranteed admission. Q11. Does GIIS have any arrangements with other schools for admission?A.
GIF has an association of forum schools with whom GIIS has an
understanding to facilitate admissions of GIIS students returning to
India. These are not guaranteed admissions and the child has to go
through the Principal of GIIS school. The admission to forum schools is
not applicable to children moving within India. Q12. What are the school term periods and when are the school holidays?A.
