PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE TO PARENTS OF GIIS DUBAI
Is certification enough, or will our children also require an education? This is a significant question, because we as parents make a considerable investment in the schooling of our children, in terms of money, time, effort and emotion. The fruit of all these endeavors, therefore, should not merely be represented by a ticket to the University at the end of more than a dozen years of hard work, but by a complete empowerment of the child, and nothing less.
This places an immense responsibility on the school, the parents and the children, because education can only be a collaborative process. Most schools in fact do make a facile promise of a “holistic” education and “all round development” of the child, but are unable to deliver on the promise. This is because schools alone, in fact, cannot provide holistic education to the child. In attaining this ideal the training comes not only from the school, but also from parents and from society. But most important of all, for holistic education, the role of the child in educating himself is seminal. The ultimate lesson that we, and also our children, can be taught is that we alone are responsible for ourselves, and for our own success.
So the entire process of education involves collaboration between all, the school, society, parents and the child. In this scenario, it becomes essential that the school seriously takes up its responsibility in providing an educational program of good quality to the students. In order to do this, we have to constantly review the structure and quality of our academic, co-curricular, extra-curricular programs as well as the support services with a view to improvement. As the new Principal of our new school, I am conscious of the scale of this responsibility, and will work towards the goal, with the teachers and parents, as a member of the GIIS Dubai team.
